ConservationWho protects the Yungas
Many hands look after the Yungas: foundations, parks, universities and laws. We start with Fundación ProYungas, which works across the whole ecoregion.
Main organisation · 1999ProYungas Foundation
ProYungas is a nonprofit foundation created in 1999 by a group of technical professionals. It works for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development, mainly in Argentina's Norte Grande. It seeks to influence public and private policy, together with state agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, companies and communities.
What it does
- Protected Productive Landscape (PPP)Its flagship programme seeks to balance nature conservation, production and quality of life. According to the site, it involves more than 80 productive organizations and more than 3 million hectares.
- Biodiversity and forest health monitoringFoundation teams survey forest plots. With the Instituto de Ecología Regional they maintain permanent plots whose trees are re-measured over the years.
