CalendarWhat to see each month
A calendar of the forest: the weather to expect, which birds, plants and fruits to look for, and how trails tend to be, month by month.
How to read itWeather comes from the Tucumán city station (1991-2020 normals), not the mountains, where it rains more and is colder. Bird and plant observations come from individual records and studies: they show when something was seen, not that you will see it. None of this replaces the National Weather Service forecast. October
Weather. Rains return: about 64 mm; high 29 °C, low 16 °C.
On the trail. Good transition month; first storms. Still within fire season.

Best months (editorial reading)
For hiking unverified
By weather, May to September (dry, cool, 5-28 mm rain per month in the city). Counterpoint: AllTrails recommends December-April for one Horco Molle trail (La Gaceta), and the NOA fire season runs July to December, so August-October needs care. This is an editorial reading; no source publishes 'best months' for the whole region.

October to January: species such as the Black-backed Grosbeak return (October), breeding starts (nightjar, oropendola), fruit peaks (Oct-Jan) and Swainson's Thrush is present (recorded in December). In winter (June-August) altitudinal migrants appear in the piedmont. This is a synthesis of the cited sources, not a published recommendation.
